Here is a didactic tool that I received
from my colleague Daniele Engaddi and that I have put in two pdf
files.
It can be useful for explaining the movement of the sun in the sky during the day, in different seasons for different locations. Print the two files (front and back) on a thin cardboard, cut and fold where shown, then glue them together. Finally past the disc where shown. New corrected version ! |

Two PDF files for two shepherd's dials.
The first has a dial scale based on the sun declination, the second has a scale based on months. For both the dials cut the rectangle and paste it on a cyliner large enough to contain the complete rectangle (do not worry if the rectangle does not completely fill the cylinder width). Then build a 10 cm. style and put it on the cylinder in such a way that it can be moved along the scale. The dial can be used at latitutdes near to 45 degrees N.
